Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update rolling out for Samsung Galaxy J5 in India

It’s time to rejoice for the Samsung Galaxy J5 users in India as the company has started rolling out Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for the device. All the users who have the Galaxy J5 2015 (SM-J500F), released in 2015, can now update their smartphones from Android Lollipop to the latest software update.

The update is being pushed out by Samsung for its affordable smartphone lineup, eight months after the release of Marshmallow. The update has the build number J500FXXU1BPF and weighs 874.17 MB. Users who have received the firmware update can see lots of new features and updated design on their smartphone.

Those who haven’t received the OTA update yet can check for the same by going to Settings > About Device > Software Update > Check for Updates. If the update is available for your device, it will show immediately appear on your screen. It is advisable to have a stable internet connection, preferably Wi-Fi since the update size is quite large, and have at least 50 percent of the battery.

The changelog for Samsung Galaxy J5 will bring an updated visual design, a new TouchWiz, enhanced usability, among other features. Users with the update will notice an updated notification panel and system settings. The advanced power saving mode is the new addition to the update that will increase the battery life of the smartphone.

Besides this, the Galaxy J5 users will notice features like Google Now on Tap, App permissions, and App Standby.

A recent report released by Google said that the update has reached 10% of the Android devices. The recent addition to the list was OnePlus 2, Samsung Galaxy S5 (Exynos variant), Lenovo Vibe K4 Note, Sony Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, and a few more. With Android N just around the corner, we are expecting more and more Android devices to receive the firmware update. Recently, Android N Developer Preview 4 was launched for the Nexus devices.

  1. After updating my Samsung J5 to Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, I have been facing some serious issues like phone over-heating, fast battery draining, slow charging and inability to change screen lock settings from Swipe to Pattern.
