A new report now suggests that Apple might unveil the iPad Mini 5 at an event in March next year. According to PC Advisor, several changes have been made to the iPad listing on Apple’s official website after the event held on September 7.
As since then, specs and prices of several variants of iPad have seen changes. For instance, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 5 now have their base storage at 32GB, while the 12.9-inch iPad Pro gets a $50-$100 price cut.
These are signs that Apple might announce something new at its next event that usually happens in March. And maybe it’ll be worth the wait going by rumored specs of the upcoming iPad Mini 5.
Apple iPad Mini 5 Specs
According to past leaks and reports, the iPad Mini 5 may come equipped with a pressure sensitive 3D Touch technology, which should give the tablet a lot more functionality thereby increasing productivity. Besides, it is expected to pack a 7.9-inch Retina display, 32GB of built-in storage bundled with 3GB of RAM. Under the hood, the iPad Mini 5 is expected to feature the improved A9 processor bundled with a 12-core 7th Generation PowerVR graphics.
In terms of design, the upcoming iPad Mini 5 is expected to retain the same design language of current iPad models, but with reduced thickness. The upcoming tablet is expected to be just 5mm in thickness, compared to the 6.1mm thickness of current-gen iPads. In addition, the build quality is expected to get significantly enhanced with the use of high-grade bend resistant 7000-series aluminum, also found on the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
And just like the newly launched iPhone 7, the upcoming iPad Mini 5 is expected is said to lose the 3.5mm jack, which could play a pivotal role in reducing the tablet’s thickness.
The iPad Mini 5 is also rumored to get protection from dust and water damage. The lack of a 3.5 mm port will also contribute towards better implementation of this safety feature. Apple is also expected to get it certified by the IP authorities.
In addition, the battery capacity of the upcoming iPad Mini 5 will reportedly get shrunk to allow for that extra thinness. That said, the iPad Mini 5 is still expected to give a similar battery life of its predecessor, despite the reduced battery size.
