How to download YouTube videos on Android smartphone: Complete guide

Google created YouTube, and now it ranks second on global ranks on Alexa (of course, first is Google). You can find any video you want to see (or imagine) on YouTube. There are channels which are so popular that they have millions of subscribers. Most of the music and movie trailers launch on YouTube first, and people gets to about it first from the YouTube. To watch videos on YouTube, you need an internet connection of course but how about you can download videos from YouTube and save it for later. You can do it easily if you are sitting in front of a Windows PC. You can now download videos from YouTube on Android device also, let’s see how?


TubeMate is an app to download YouTube videos with HD quality and downloads fast. With TubeMate app, you can download multiple videos at the same time by listing them into a queue. You can see the download progress in the notification bar. This app downloads the video in packets which help the video to get download easily and quickly.

TubeMate app is not available in Google Play Store because of some security issues, but you can still install it on your phone. You have to sideload this app on your Android smartphone. If you don’t know how to sideload this app on your smartphone, then follow these steps.

Install TubeMate

On your phone, go to Settings > Security > Enable Unknown Resources and confirm it by clicking OK.


Open any browser on your smartphone and navigate to Select one option to download the apk file of TubeMate app, once you downloaded the file.


Open Downloads and tap on the downloaded apk file and install it on your smartphone. You will now see a new app in app drawer called TubeMate. Launch the app, click Agree and you will proceed to the app interface.

You will see the mobile view of YouTube. Here you can search for the videos to download from YouTube. Select one of the videos from the search results that you want to download. While the video is playing, you will see a download button (down arrow) int the top bar.

Click on the download button and you will see a small window with download options. Select the quality of the video and hit the download button.

Now you can see the downloading bar in the notification panel. After downloading finished, you can tap on the downloaded video which will show you some more options; Go to List and Play. You can play the video or go directly to the downloaded videos list.

You can download just the audio of from the YouTube video and save it on your phone. You can select the download location in the settings and more options you can select from the settings.

YouTube Offline

Google added a new feature in YouTube app to save the video offline so you can watch it later when you are not connected to the internet. These videos get saved on the YouTube app, and you can only watch them from the YouTube app.

Open YouTube app; you need to sign in to YouTube using your Google account. View any video and you will see a download button below the video. Tap the download button and the video will start to download.

You can see all your saved video in Offline Videos, under My Account section. You can watch these video anytime even if you are not connected to the internet.


You cannot save DRM protected videos offline from YouTube but with TubeMate app you can download it and save it on your phone. TubeMate can detect your phone resolution and what quality that your phone can play videos and show you the options to download.
