Elephone R9 fingerprint sensor to use glass cover solution

Elephone is working extensively on its high-end smartphone Elephone R9, which is expected to launch soon in China. The Chinese smartphone maker has slipped another detail about the fingerprint sensor embedded at the front. Elephone says that the fingerprint sensor will use glass cover material rather than coating solution.

Elephone explained that the coating solution is cheaper, and there are fatal flaws in using that technology like Low surface hardness (3H) and bad abrasion resistance. As per the company statement –

High gloss coating has a low yield (less than 80%), and Matte Coating program is inconvenient and unsatisfactory in aesthetics and reliability. The cover solution, on the other hand, is aesthetic, ergonomics, reliable with high hardness (more than 6H).

Many companies making high-end and quality phones go for a cover solution over coating solution. Some of these companies include Vivo, Oppo, Meizu, Xiaomi, and LeEco. Choosing glass cover material will improve the feel of the device in hand and make fingerprint identification quick and accurate. Overall, the phone is going to look and feel premium.

Other details we know so far is that it shares similarity with Apple iPhone 7 in terms of back cover. It will launch in Rose Gold color option especially made for women, besides golden, blue, and grey. The smartphone will feature 0.6mm bezel and a camera of 13MP at the back.
