Google has introduced net banking as a payment option for apps, music, movies, and books on the Google Play marketplace in India. This development means that you can make use of internet banking to purchase apps, movies, and books. According to sources, net banking is the fourth payment method added by Google after credit cards, debit cards, and gift cards.
Recently, the search engine giant released a report stating that Indians are far ahead when it comes to the payment of digital content and apps. The addition of net banking soon after the release of the report assumes great significance. The new payment method is being added slowly and will be enabled by a server-side update.
Net banking option available on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop
As of writing this, we are unable to view net banking payment option on Google Play. This includes smartphones loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 7.0 Nougat. However, handsets running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop have already got this new feature.
Steps to pay via net banking from Google Play Store
To verify whether net banking option is available with Google Play, you need to slide out the menu from the hamburger icon on the left of the screen and select the option Account. You need to select Payment Methods option.
You will be able to view option named Add Netbanking. If you select it you will be able to view whether your bank name is listed or not. We are unable to view net banking option when we checked.
After you select a bank, you can navigate to any paid app or content and make it as a default payment option. You need to verify for the current default option and tap on the downward arrow icon.
This step will throw open new payment options. You need to select the bank option and provide the net banking information. Once you adopt the net banking as a payment method, it will be your default option.
Based on reports, Google had reportedly established partnerships with 38 banks to enable users to pay on Google Play via Internet banking.
