The total number of internet usersIAMAI report says India has now over 350 Million Internet users was as of 30 June 2015 is 213 million. These figures were released by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) on Wednesday.

Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) in a statement said that 213 million users that translate as 60% had accessed the internet through mobile devices. These numbers point to the fact that the internet in India has become inclusive, and this bodes well with the industry and the society as a whole.

Internet users have surged by 26% from October 2014 when there were 278 million users. The mobile internet users have also risen by 40% from 159 million users in October 2014.

It further added that the internet in India took more than a decade to rise from 10 million to 100 million. It took only three years to rise from 100 million to 200 million and only one year to rise from 200 to 300 million users. It means that the Internet has come here in a big way.

Rural India will be the primary pusher of this growth. There is a vast expanse of the country that needs to be covered by the web.

According to IAMAI, the increase of local language content will spawn a spawn a growth of 39% in the current Internet user base. The growth of 16% in the urban internet segment was primarily driven by mobile internet users.

India pitched its case to the US a fortnight ago to establish route servers. It feels the internet must be more democratic and should be beyond the ten root servers in the US located mostly in a military research lab, universities and NASA. India will soon overtake the US and become the second largest Internet market soon. Shortly this is a possibility.
