Kawasaki aims to capture 25 % market share; introduces Z800

The luxury superbike segment in India is growing at rapid pace over the past few years and will continue to do so in future. Taking the advantage of the present situation and a target of slicing 25 % share by 2015, Japanese bike maker Kawasaki introduced the Z800.

Kawasaki Z800 is open for booking and people with heavy wallets and innate bike enthusiasts will soon start thronging the showroom. The company expects to sell at least 1500 to 2000 units in the country.

Shigeto Niskikawa, deputy-managing director of Kawasaki’s Indian subsidiary, told reporters on Monday that, “We are looking at sales of 1,500-1,800 bikes in India in 2014. Of these, around 400 are expected to be in the superbike range that is fully imported “We have a strong portfolio of superbikes and aim to capture 25 per cent of the Indian market by 2015.”

Clearly, over the period India has witnessed world-renowned bike makers entering the markets, which include America’s Harley Davidson, U K’s Triumph, South Korea’s Hyosung Bikes, Japan’s Suzuki and now Japan’s Kawasaki.

Kawasaki’s Z800 is an 800cc ‘Naked’ sports bike very popular among Europeans and its nearest competitor is Ducati’s Monster 795. At present, Harley Davidson leads the Indian super bike segment and Kawasaki is poised to break this with few more bikes in pipeline.

  • Price: Rs. 8.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Kawasaki even inaugurated a new showroom at Delhi named Bagga Link taking total number of showroom ahead by two in the country. Company is also looking to expand its dealer network and increase the future sales.
