LeEco Le 2 vs LeEco Le 1s: What’s new in 2nd generation

LeEco released the much-awaited Le 2 at an event held in New Delhi on June 8. The company had released LeEco Le 1s, the first generation smartphone in January. Even though both devices ship with the same display, there are differences between the two. In this article, we will compare the two devices.

While LeEco Le 2 is equipped with a 5.5-inch FHD IPS In-Cell display, the LeEco Le 1s ships with a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display. LeEco has improved the display in the latest release by incorporating in-cell display technology for precise touch sensitivity.

The main attraction of Le 2 is the integration of a new processor, which is Snapdragon 652. During the launch event, LeEco revealed that Le 2 is the first smartphone in India to be equipped with the latest processor. However, the previously released Le 2s ships with Helio X 10 Turbo, which runs at a clock speed of 2.2GHz. It seems that the company has listened to the customer feedbacks about the enormous amount of heat generated by Le 1s during the usage.

On the memory front, both Le 2 and Le 1s feature 3GB RAM, which is plenty for doing all major tasks including gaming. Le 2 features 32GB of internal storage, which is same as its previous counterpart Le 1s.

LeEco Le 2 offers a 16-megapixel main camera, which is higher than Le 1 with 13MP. The new device also includes an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper. However, the Le 1s is equipped only with a 5MP sensor. We believe that the new camera included with Le 2 will be capable of shooting crisp pictures. Previously, users heavily complained about the bad quality images produced by Le 1s.

There is no difference in the battery arena since both Le 2 and Le 1s ships with 3000mAh battery with fast charging technology via USB Type-C Port.

Operating Platform

LeEco le 1s

Both LeEco Le 2 and Le 1s are equipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop. However if you purchase Le 1s, you should install OTA updates initially since the devices are shipped with the older version of eUI. In the case of LeEco Le 2, there is no need to perform any updates since the device is loaded with the latest stable OS.

Advanced Features

Both LeEco Le 2 and Le 1s ships with full metal unibody and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. However, Le 2 features audio-out only through the USB Type-C connector and it makes use of LeEco’s revolutionary CDLA or Continual Digital Lossless Audio technology. This means you need to plug in special CDLA Type-C earphones to hear audio, which is capable of delivery high-quality bass. The earphones cost Rs. 1,990 and is not provided with the package.

However, we are concerned about the amount of heat generated by the USB Type-C port and its impact on your ears. LeEco also demonstrated the quality and effect of the new sounding technology before the audience at the event.

While the price of LeEco Le 2 is fixed at Rs. 11,999, the currently available Le 1s costs Rs. 10,990 with exchange offers up to Rs. 9,000. Moreover, you are eligible for free Yatra e-Cash worth Rs. 5,000 including flat 10 percent discount at nearbuy.com.

The registrations for Le 2 will start on June 13. We hope the device will be available for purchase via flash sale on June 23, although not announced officially.

If you look at the specifications, LeEco Le 2 excels in all departments when compared to its predecessor. With better display, new processor, and an enhanced camera, the Le 2 stands apart from Le 1s. With several complaints of heating and poor camera quality, it doesn’t make sense to purchase Le 1s at this point. If you are planning to buy a new premium smartphone, we would advise you to wait till the new LeEco Le 2 is available for purchase.
