Microsoft Surface Phone leaks online, reveals Snapdragon 830 and keyboard cover

A leaked image of rumored Microsoft Surface Phone with Snapdragon 830 processor, 2K resolution, and keyboard cover has surfaced on a popular Chinese website Baidu. According to sources, an unidentified user with the first part of his name starting with DYING has posted two distinct images along with content in the Chinese language. However, the content clearly reveals that the phone will be loaded with Window 10 Mobile Redstone 2.

The images are posted in a particular angle. The first image reveals the screen with the time as 10.50. We are unable to read the date although the day Tuesday is partially visible. The other image shows the white colored rear side of the handset with the camera bump.

Interestingly, the handset is covered with a keyboard on both images. We have been hearing rumors for quite some time that Microsoft is gearing up to manufacture Surface Phone. This rumor has aggravated to a large extent after the recent reports that the Redmond-based company is planning to ditch Lumia handsets.

Surface Phone Specifications Leak

The image displays a Surface Phone with a white keyboard cover, which allows users to type content quickly. According to sources, the image uploaded on Baidu is believed to be authentic and was originally uploaded by a source who has a track record of leaking accurate information.

The content alongside the image clearly showcases that the phone will ship with a Snapdragon 830 processor, 5.7-inch display with 2K resolution. Moreover, the rear camera capacity has been mentioned as 20MP.

According to rumor mills, the upcoming Surface Phone will be equipped with a 20-megapixel rear camera coupled with a Carl Zeiss lens. Moreover, the handset will also beat an enhanced internal storage and 8GB RAM on top of an Intel Kaby Lake processor. You can also expect a fingerprint sensor. We can infer from multiple reports that the software giant will release three variants of Surface Phone – 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB, and 8GB/256GB.

While the rumor mills state that the Surface Phone will ship with a Snapdragon 821 processor, the image states 820. It’s all rumors and we have to wait till Microsoft finally launches the handset.

According to a latest patent filing application, the fingerprint sensor will be integrated with the smartphone’s display instead of the home button or rear of the phone. There are reports that the upcoming Surface Phone will be better than iPhone 7. Hence, a large chunk of iOS and Android users will most likely migrate to Windows Mobile, although this is highly unlikely.

Microsoft Surface Phone expected in 2017

The upcoming Microsoft Surface Phone will be launched before the end of Q1 2017. However, you can expect the launch event in January 2017. There are rumors that Microsoft will most likely launch the new handset in October 2016.

That being said, Microsoft had planned to launch the Surface Phone in 2012. However, the plan was shelved after the company acquired Nokia’s smartphone business.
