A Bangalore based promoter, Madhava Reddy has claimed that the Namotel Achhe Din smartphone is the cheapest the world has ever seen, and it is humbly priced at Rs. 99.
Doesn’t this sound familiar! Just a few months ago, in February, Freedom 251 was promised to the country at a meagre price of 251, and with unbelievable specs.
Freedom 251 Specifications
It promised a 4-inch display with a resolution of 540×960, 1 GB RAM with 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 8GB internal memory along with 32GB expanding capacity. The phone would have supported Android 5.1 and had both rear (3.2 Mp) and front (0.3 MP) camera. Alas, the phone hasn’t made it to the market, yet (yet, I say because some people involved maintain their positions on releasing the units that have already been paid for).
NamoTel Achhe Din Specifications
Recently, another smartphone company based out of Jaipur made a slightly believable promise to release a phone with a slightly toned down set of specs (Screen- 4 inches and 480×800 pixels, 1.3 GHz Dual core processor, 4 GB internal memory expandable up to 32 GB, 1 GB RAM and front and rear cameras at 2.0 MP and 0.3 MP respectively). Though there has not been a statement as to how many bookings have been made, we all know what happened with Freedom 251.
The NamoTel is said to have the exact features as Docoss X1 but at a price of Rs. 99+199 (registration charge on bemybanker.com)+150 (shipping charges). All of the amount has to be paid in advance to book the device, the arrival date about which we know not.
Funny how all these launches had one thing in common, and that is, you need to book them in advance.
As a sixteenth century Englishman would say “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”, I’d steer clear of the extremely lucrative deal until there is some evidence about it being true.
