OnePlus 3 smartphone sales shutdown in 24 countries from August 9

OnePlus has decided to stop the sales of its flagship OnePlus 3 for a month in 24 countries. Getting rid of the invite system, the company has outdone its expectations by making the device one of the fastest selling ever (fastest ever by OnePlus, as revealed by Carl Pei, CEO of the Chinese giant).

The better-than-expected sales have resulted in a deficit of inventory, forcing the company to delay the shipping date of existing orders, and stop taking any more orders. The company will take time out starting 6 PM on 9th August to 5:59 PM, 12th September EDT in the following countries:

  24. Spain

This also means that the existing inventory or the ones already on the way can take care of orders that will be placed before the time starts.

Pei announced that OnePlus would set up a page where consumers who wish to buy the device will be able to leave their email address to receive a notification when the sales resume. The invite system was introduced by the company due to their concerns about the difference in the supply and demand.

Now, the company is in its third year of business, but isn’t equipped or hasn’t been able to correctly forecast the demand. The expectation of over-supplying has led them to supply in less quantity in certain markets. However, the popularity of the smartphone lineup has worked its charm across several markets. The OnePlus 3 has been doing so well in Europe that the demand has massively exceeded the supply. The pause in sales will give the company time to recuperate and build up to find a balance in the demand and supply.

Hopefully, for the company this attempt at finding a balance will be the last of its kind. Marketing experts believe that overusing such tactics can also result in a negative impact.

After all, the company has 75 percent of its marketing history (OnePlus, OnePlus X and OnePlus 2) filled with a similar manipulative gimmick.
