To promote Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat campaign, the Railway Ministry has launched ‘Clean My Coach’ service, which was announced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in his 2016-17 budget speech. Aimed to ensure a high level of cleanliness in trains, the passengers can alert the relevant cleaning staff via SMS, Android app or by logging on to cleanmycoach.com website.
Speaking at the launch event in New Delhi, Prabhu revealed that the ‘Clean My Coach’ service has been launched to empower the citizen to get essential services on board for a pleasant journey experience. Moreover, the project is specially created in lines with the Digital India initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per the scheme, to perform any cleaning work in the coach, the passengers will have to send an SMS by typing CLEAN <Space >< 10-digit PNR number> to 58888, which will be immediately acknowledged via SMS along with a reference code.
As soon as a message is sent, new software named – OBSERVE (On Board Services) exclusively created for Clean My Coach campaign will alert the cleaner assigned to the particular train directly to his mobile phone with the coach and berth number from where the request is generated.
The staff will then keep in touch with the passenger and performs the cleaning work entirely free of cost. Meanwhile, a simultaneous message is delivered to the top railway administrative staff to make sure that the work assigned is carried out properly.
The primary aim of the Onboard housekeeping service (OBHS) is to ensure cleaning of coaches during train journey including that of toilets twice a day with on-demand unscheduled cleaning at any time upon requests from passengers.
Alternatively, passengers can also make use of the new ‘Clean My Coach’ Indian Railways Android app or by manually visiting cleanmycoach.com to log a request.
The Clean My Coach service is available in 1297 trains spanning across 43 divisions across Indian Railways. Passengers can verify whether the service is available for their train by providing either the train or PNR number.
