Samsung Galaxy S8 release date hints Huawei P9 like dual lens camera

With the successful launch of its Galaxy S7 flagship, Korean handset maker Samsung’s focus now shifts to its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship that should be announced early next year. A new leak about the Galaxy S8 has just surfaced on the web revealing some rather exciting details about the upcoming handset. A post on Weibo from a user who goes by the alias “i ice universe” reveals that next year’s flagship will feature a new dual-lens camera setup – one featuring a 12MP module, while the other will be a 13MP.  The company is expected to source these cameras from its camera division, along with Sony. While Sony’s model for this dual camera is still unknown, Samsung’s model is S5K2L2.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Release Date and Specs

In addition, the Galaxy S8 will likely have an 8MP front-facing shooter. If this turns out to be true, it will mark an increase in megapixel count for the front camera in the company’s flagship Galaxy range in years. Besides, the leak also suggests that there will be another camera housed above the display, possible because the upcoming Galaxy S8 is getting the Iris scanning functionality, similar to the one that made its debut with the Galaxy Note 7.

The likes of Huawei have already debuted their P9 flagship featuring a dual-lens camera setup. Moreover, even Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 Plus in September with a dual-lens camera, thereby making it rather important for Samsung to feature this new technology in its next flagship to stay on top of the game.

While the dual-lens camera setup will certainly be appreciated, we are excited to see the upcoming Galaxy S8’s design. The company completely has been redesigning its flagship smartphones starting with the Galaxy S6, with every successor of the flagship handset coming out with a slight variation on that same design. We can’t wait to find out the Galaxy S8 design will be different from the present Galaxy flagships.

While there’s no information about other details of the Galaxy S8, we won’t be surprised if rumors of the Galaxy S8 start churning out as early as next week. It seems the initiation has already begun.
