US Government asks Samsung Galaxy Note 7 users to stop using smartphone

Post Samsung’s global recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7, US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has asked users to stop using smartphones considering the increasing cases of explosion. The commission released an official statement highlighting the possibilities of Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion and had asked users to keep their devices shut.

Along with releasing an official statement, it updated users through Twitter:

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission statement issued says, “U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging all consumers who own a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to power them down and stop charging or using the device.”

It also states that the commission along with Samsung is working cooperatively to formally announce an official recall of the devices, as soon as possible. “CPSC is working quickly to determine whether a replacement Galaxy Note 7 is an acceptable remedy for Samsung or their phone carriers to provide to consumers.”

Samsung has also issued a statement stating that it is working with CPSC. Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America, remarks,

Samsung continues to ensure that consumer safety remains our top priority. We are asking users to power down their Galaxy Note7s and exchange them now.

New Note 7 replacement devices will be issued to exchange program participants upon completion of the CPSC process. In the interim, consumers can return their Note7 for another device.

From past two weeks , multiple issues of Galaxy Note 7 battery explosion have cropped up across the globe. A while back, we heard about the Galaxy Note 7 blast in a jeep in the US, and then in a hotel room. Only today, an Amazon employee in the US issued a case against Samsung after his Galaxy Note 7 blasted in the trousers, causing him severe third-degree burns. Indian civil ministry has also issued a notice asking all Galaxy Nite 7 users to keep it switched off which onboard.

Samsung, meanwhile, has extended a Note 7 Exchange Program, which allows current Galaxy Note 7 users to exchange their smartphone with a new Note 7. The other offer is Galaxy Note 7 exchange with Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge and the refund of price difference.
