Whatsapp video calling launched for Beta users

Whatsapp is undoubtedly the most popular instant messenger in the world, and it has more than one billion users in its database.

The Facebook-owned application is always known for introducing new features regularly, and according to latest updates, the company is all set to introduce video calling facility for its users.

According to latest updates, Whatsapp voice calling feature has appeared in its new beta version, v2.16.80. As of now, the video calling option will be available to users who have signed up for the Google Play Beta Testing program.

The voice call button will come up once you click the ‘Call’ option. Once you click the call tab, you will be asked whether to chose a voice call or video call. Whatsapp users believe that the new feature will be rolled out soon, giving them the privilege to reduce costs while making calls to long distance.

If the video calling feature becomes a reality for its billion users, then Whatsapp will surely emerge as a director competitor to Skype.

Whatsapp’s new move has fetched negative criticisms from telecom companies, as they believe that it will impact them negatively. On the other hand, netizens and social media activists are supporting Whatsapp for making this world a better place with easier communication.

Similar kinds of criticisms arose when Whatsapp introduced the voice calling feature a year ago. All the telecom firms who lashed out against Whatsapp shut their mouth when the feature was well received by its users. Whatsapp expect the same verdict from its users as they are now gearing up with the video call option.

Some other reports indicate that the company has removed the functionality before some hours from the beta version, and experts assume that it is being done because Whatsapp is not ready for a wider roll out.

An official announcement regarding the wider roll out of the video feature will be soon made by the company sources in the coming days.
