Xiaomi Mi Band 2 with OLED display and 20-day battery life launched in China

Xiaomi has announced the launch of its second-generation fitness tracker, Mi Band 2, and it is going to go on sale in China on June 7 at a price of CNY 149. This fitness tracker is the cheapest of its kind. The company is known for providing cheaper alternatives from other brands, with the same quality.

The device packs a few improvements from its predecessor including the all-new OLED screen and a heart rate sensor. CEO Jun Lei has not announced its availability outside China, leaving us with nothing but speculations about it.

Similar to most other smart fitness based watches available in the market, Mi Band 2 focusses on fitness and health tracking and sleeping routine. Much like Mi Band, this one vibrates with an incoming call, message, notification or alarm (if connected to the phone).

The OLED display shows not only the time but also the steps taken and heart rate count among other details. The 70mAh battery enables it to last around 20 days. This is a downgrade from the previous version that lasts 30 days, but it did not have a display.

Other specs include:

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Dimensions – 40.3mm length, a width of 15.7mm, and a side width of 10.5mm
  • Weight – 7 grams
  • Skin-friendly thermoplastic elastomers and aluminum
  • Water resistant
  • Compatible with devices running on Android 4.4 and above, and iOS 7 and above
  • Colours available – black, blue, green and orange

Considering that its nearest and biggest competitor in this market is Fitbit, Mi has a massive advantage in the economy as the Flex Wristband costs about Rs. 2,999 in India.

The arrival of Mi Band 2 in India is much-anticipated launch in the fitness and sports community. We earlier told about the launch date of the fitness tracker in China and other details. We will soon update you about its launch in India as well as about its price and availability.
