Xiaomi Redmi 4 specs leak hints 5-inch display and Snapdragon 625 SoC

We may soon see a new device added to Xiaomi’s affordable Redmi range of smartphones. Some leaked images have surfaced on the internet disclosing some vital information about the upcoming Redmi 4. This year we have seen Xiaomi launching three new smartphones – the Redmi 3, Redmi 3 Pro and Redmi 3S in the budget Redmi series.

Till now, almost all phones in the Redmi lineup came featuring a plastic body. For the Redmi 4, Xiaomi may opt for a metal unibody construction instead of the plastic material. This would almost certainly make the upcoming device look gorgeous and feel premium.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 Rumored Specs

In the leaked photographs, the rumored smartphone is seen to be powered by the Snapdragon 625 SoC. It is a brand new chip from Qualcomm made using the latest 14 nm manufacturing process. The 64-bit processor has eight ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz each. The Adreno 506 GPU handles the gaming performance.

The previous Redmi 3 and the Redmi 3 Pro were powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor. The chip has four ARM Cortex A53 cores running at a frequency of 1.5 GHz each and another four cores clocked at 1.2 GHz. The Adreno 405 is there to handle the graphics.

The Redmi 3S packs in an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor. This SoC has a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 cluster running at 1.4GHz each and another quad-core ARM Cortex A53 cluster clocked at 1.1GHz each. This has an Adreno 505 GPU.

The upcoming Redmi 4 will sport a 5-inch display similar to the Redmi 3 line-up. The IPS screen will have a resolution of 1280 x 720 (HD). The leaked imagery also suggests that the forthcoming smartphone will also sport a fingerprint scanner. The scanner is seen to be placed just under the rear camera at the back of the device.

There is no information about the camera of the rumored device. It can only be said that the device will not feature any dual camera set-up.

The Redmi 4 shown in the image is seen to be sporting 2 GB of RAM combined with 16 GB of internal memory capacity. There should also be a version with 3 GB of RAM and double internal storage space, i.e. 32GB.

The speculated handset will run on Android 6.0.1 out of the box with MIUI 8 layered on top of it. There is no info about the pricing of the upcoming mobile, but being a member of the Redmi series, we can expect it to be pretty affordable.
