Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 Arrives with Unexpected Bug Fixes
Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 surprises with bug fixes for Pixel devices still on the QPR1 beta channel. The update addresses media player, NFC, and Material You issues.

Google has surprised the Android community by releasing an unexpected update for Pixel devices. Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1, identified by build number AP41.240925.012, arrives as a surprise considering Google’s recent focus on Android 15 QPR2 and the release of the first Developer Preview of Android 16. This unexpected update primarily focuses on resolving lingering issues and improving the user experience.

Addressing Bugs and Enhancing User Experience

While Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 doesn’t introduce any groundbreaking features, it addresses some noteworthy issues that were impacting users. One notable fix targets the media player, which some users reported was failing to open. This issue has been resolved in the new update, ensuring seamless access to multimedia content.

Additionally, the update tackles a problem that hindered NFC payments. With the increasing popularity of contactless payments, this fix is crucial for ensuring a smooth and reliable transaction experience for Pixel users.

Furthermore, Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3.1 refines the Material You theming engine. Previously, a bug limited the system to generating only four color palettes, restricting users’ personalization options. This update removes that limitation, allowing for a wider range of color customization and a more personalized user interface.

Update Availability and Installation

This update is specifically targeted towards Pixel devices that are currently enrolled in the public beta program and running the Android 15 QPR1 beta channel. It’s important to note that devices already running QPR2 or Android 16 DP1 will not receive this update.

For users who had previously exited the beta program but remain on Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3, rejoining the program will make their devices eligible for the Beta 3.1 OTA update. However, some users have reported being offered the Android 15 QPR2 update instead. If this happens, a simple device reboot often resolves the issue. Alternatively, users can manually sideload the Beta 3.1 OTA file.

Google’s decision to release this update underscores their commitment to refining the Android experience, even for versions that are being phased out. By addressing these bugs, Google ensures that users who haven’t yet transitioned to newer versions can still enjoy a stable and polished Android experience.
