
Google has commenced the rollout of the first beta version of Android 16 to eligible Pixel devices. This release follows a series of developer previews and introduces a host of new features and improvements.
Enhanced Compatibility and User Experience
Android 16 Beta 1 prioritizes enhanced compatibility for large-screen devices like foldables and tablets. The update aims to ensure apps run seamlessly at any window size and aspect ratio, improving usability on diverse form factors. Additionally, Live Updates notifications will provide real-time updates on ongoing activities, such as food deliveries or ride-sharing services.
Camera and Video Advancements
The update also introduces significant advancements in camera and video capabilities. Support for the APV video codec enables high-quality video recording and post-production, offering lossless quality and support for high bit-rates up to 8K resolution. Furthermore, camera night mode scene detection allows third-party camera apps to intelligently switch to and from night mode.
Additional Features and Improvements
Android 16 Beta 1 includes a range of other enhancements, such as new system icons, UI refinements, bug fixes, and performance improvements. Features introduced in earlier developer previews, like Audio sharing on Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) devices, Screen-off fingerprint access, Notification cooldown, and new Health Connect features, are also included.
