Information and Communication Technology has played a very significant role in the growth of India. It has made our economy one of the most fastest growing economy in the world.
One of the essential functions of telecommunication has been the fact that it has bridged the divide between the people and also between nation.
To mark the importance of telecommunication, May 17, 2016, was celebrated as World Telecommunication Day around the World.
Speaking on the importance of this day Mr N Sivasailam, Additional Secretary Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, said that the need of the hour is to focus our attention on the development of software in multiple local languages.
He also pointed out on the fact that it will take India close to 3 to 5 years to develop software in local languages for mass communication and application.
In the last couple of years, a lot of development has taken place when it comes to telecom sector in the Country. Even though the mobile have penetrated more or less all the regions of our country but the internet has still not reached the nook and corner of our nation. The only way it is possible is through regular efforts to reach to every citizen and it has only intensified in the coming time.
The additional secretary also pointed out the fact that India Health and Education also needs drastic efforts to make telecommunication service grow in this domain. The need of the hour is for the government to make it more visible and more pronounced when it comes to this field.
Also, speaking on the occasion of World Telecommunication Day was Mr Savitur Prasad, Principal integrated Financial Advisor Ministry of Defence, who felt that India needed work to give better results for Make In India project of the Prime Minister and with time, India’s dependence on Imported equipment from various countries can lower with time.
According to him, India is still vastly depended on ICT components and equipment even for Defence Sector from outside countries. It has to reduce its import for the economy to come at par with that of the international level. For its economy to grow like China and the USA, it has to focus its attention on homegrown equipment.
