German automobile behemoth Mercedes-Benz has announced that its highly-anticipated Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 roadster will be launched in India on July 26. The car was earlier unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show and will be replacing the aging SLK 55 AMG.
In terms of design, the AMG SLC 43 retains the same design language of the SLC, barring a few changes. For instance, the front grille and headlamps have been completely redesigned, inspired by the company’s current design philosophy. The front gets new dual-beam headlamps along with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper rocks a much sporty look and gets two large air intakes to increase air flow. While the back also features new redesigned tail lamps and bumper.
Subtle changes have been made to the interiors as well to exude a bit more attitude. For instance, there’s a new steering wheel and a revamped instrument panel. The upholstery has been upgraded with new colour themes along with a new aluminum trim. The other major change is a new COMAND infotainment system which rocks a 7-inch display compared to the 5.8-inch found on the SLK. According to the company, the retractable roof has been improved which can now be operated at speeds of 40km/h.
The new Mercedes-AMG SLC43 gets powered by a 2996cc, 6 cylinder twin-turbo engine that generates 362bhp at 5,500-6,000 rpm with a peak torque of 520Nm at 2,000-4,200 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox that powers the rear wheels. The roadster zips from 0-100km/h in under 5 seconds and reaches top speeds of up to 250km/h.
There are five driving modes to choose from which include economy, comfort, sport, sport+ and individual. Depending upon the mode selected, characteristics of the engine, transmission and steering are altered to deliver either a sporty or comfortable driving experience. The car also features aluminum paddle shifters and an M button giving drivers the option of changing gears manually.
