Snapchat Introduces Footsteps Feature for iOS, Enabling Users to Map Their Travels
Snapchat's new Footsteps feature lets iOS users track their travel history using Snap Map data and Memories. Explore your past and present journeys!

Snapchat has introduced a new feature called Footsteps for its iOS user base. This feature, previously exclusive to Snapchat+ subscribers, allows users to track and visualize the locations they have explored and shared Snaps from. Footsteps leverages Snap Map data and Memories to create a personalized travel history, showcasing both past and present journeys.

To ensure privacy, this feature is only accessible to the account holder and requires Ghost Mode to be disabled. Users also have the option to delete their Footsteps history at any time.

Tracking Travels with Footsteps

Upon initial use, Footsteps will utilize saved Memories to map out previous travels. Subsequently, it relies on real-time location data to track new Footsteps. The feature provides insights into the extent of exploration, such as the percentage of a city or country visited.

Other Notable Snapchat Updates

Beyond Footsteps, Snapchat recently announced several other key updates at its Snap Partner Summit 2024:

  • Gemini Integration: Snapchat’s AI chatbot, My AI, will now be powered by Google’s Gemini large language model (LLM). This integration will enhance My AI’s capabilities in text, audio, image, video, and code processing, along with improved computer vision.
  • Snap AI Video: This new feature empowers Creators on the platform to generate AI videos from text prompts.
  • AI Lens and Aging Filter: A new AI Lens allows users to visualize themselves as their older selves. Additionally, AI Lenses and caption features have been extended to Snapchat Memories.
  • Fifth-Generation Spectacles: Snapchat also revealed its latest iteration of Snap Spectacles, further enhancing its augmented reality offerings.
