Twitter is a valuable resource for people who like to give an expression to their opinions via social networks. The opinion is however limited to 140 character long statements called ‘TWEETS’.
The other problem with the popular site is its current format that makes it harder for mainstream consumers to follow trending topics or take part in the conversations fully.
To overcome this shortfall, Twitter redesigned the profile pages for users, showing some resemblance to Facebook profile pages but a new survey by TWOPcharts has raised the company’s problems by many folds.
Twopcharts report on Twitter
A report by Twopcharts, a firm that monitors Twitter usage has revealed that nearly half (44%) of the Twitter users have no say in the conversations on the social media site. Most of them after signup remain spectators to the trending debates or at worst, just dormant.
The Twitter team has several guides explaining concepts like ‘retweet’ and ‘favourite’ so the TWITTERATIS understand the service better but glaring issue that the website has to face – encourage people to tweet.
Twitter reportedly defines an active user as someone who logs into the account at least once a month. The Twopcharts however outlines worst fears, 44% Twitter accounts have never sent a tweet.
How does it affect Twitter? Well, for a website which is looking to influence advertisers that it is a medium through which they can reach out to consumers, the number of users who don’t even tweet is shocking.
“30% of existing Twitter accounts have sent 1-10 tweets (and) only 13% of the accounts have written at least 100 tweets,” Says the report. The report also highlights Twitter’s user retention issue.
It estimates 542.1 million accounts have sent at least one tweet since they’ve been created, suggesting that more than half of the accounts in existence have actively tried out the service. But just 23% of those accounts have tweeted sometime in the last 30 days.
Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) responded by saying that it does not comment on third-party data disclosures and declined to comment when approached by news fraternity following the study from Twopcharts.
