WhatsApp is on the verge of rolling out a new feature that could transform how users share their daily moments. In a development reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is currently testing a capability that closely resembles Instagram Stories, enabling users to enhance their Status updates with music tracks. This innovative feature is being tested in a beta version accessible to a limited number of WhatsApp users across both Android and iOS platforms.
Music Integration in WhatsApp Status
The latest beta version of WhatsApp introduces a music icon in the Status editor. This addition opens up a music library, offering a variety of selections similar to what Meta provides on Instagram. Users can search and select music based on song titles, artists, or the latest trends.
Once a song is chosen, users can pinpoint exactly which segment of the track they’d like to include in their Status. The duration of music clips can vary: a 15-second limit is set for photo-based Statuses, while video Statuses can include longer sections, depending on the video length.
Enhanced Viewer Interaction
After a Status with music is posted, viewers can interact in new ways. By tapping on the song label displayed in the Status, they can see details such as the track name, artist, and album art through a pop-up overlay. Additionally, the overlay includes a three-dot menu button that allows viewers to visit the Instagram profile of the featured artist directly from WhatsApp.
This feature, currently available only to select beta testers, is anticipated to become more broadly available in a forthcoming stable release of WhatsApp on both Android and iOS.
