Sennheiser Launches New HD 490 PRO Studio Headphones

Sennheiser, a renowned name in advanced audio technology, announced the release of its new open-back HD 490 PRO reference studio headphones on 22 January 2024. These headphones are specifically designed for the rigors of producing, mixing, and mastering in today’s complex music production landscape. Featuring a dynamic, circumaural design, the HD 490 PRO offers highly precise sound reproduction and a wide, realistic sound stage essential for music professionals.

Vipin Pungalia, Country Manager & Director- Sales Pro Audio at Sennheiser, discussed the evolution of music production and the increasing complexity of mixes, highlighting the necessity for clear and accurate sound reproduction to tackle ‘audio blind spots.’ The HD 490 PRO aims to address these challenges by providing the transparency and precision needed for effective mixing and mastering.

Engineered for full-spectrum audio accuracy, the headphones boast an extensive sound stage, ultralight voice coils for authentic sound reproduction, and a frequency response that remains uncolored across the audio spectrum. The open-mesh ear cup covers and the headphones’ unique design minimize resonances and distortion, ensuring an optimal listening experience.

Comfort is a key component of the HD 490 PRO’s design. The lightweight, ergonomic construction eliminates pressure points, and the ear pads feature a Sennheiser-patented soft comfort zone. Additionally, the headphones come with two types of ear pads — velour for a slightly warmer sound and fabric for a flat, neutral sound — both of which are washable, offering a sustainable solution.

The HD 490 PRO also includes a free license for the dearVR MIX-SE plugin from Dear Reality, transforming a DAW into a virtual mixing environment with optimized acoustics. This plugin ensures that mixes translate well across different playback systems, addressing a common challenge in music production.

Attention to detail extends to the headphones’ accessories and design features, such as the option to plug the cable into either earpiece and a patented cable coil structure that prevents noise transmission. The HD 490 PRO is delivered with two sets of ear pads, a 1.8 m headphone cable, and a dearVR MIX-SE license, while the HD 490 PRO Plus includes additional accessories for enhanced convenience and comfort.

The Sennheiser HD 490 Pro and HD 490 Pro Plus are available for purchase exclusively on Amazon, priced at INR 27,590 and INR 32,990, respectively. This release marks a significant addition to Sennheiser’s lineup of professional audio equipment, offering music professionals a tool designed to meet the demands of modern music production.
